GEORGE P. STEIN VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
In 1997 during Stephanie Prioste's year as president, Tracy Sunrise Rotary formed a non-profit foundation with the sole intent of funding educational scholarships. The first of which was named for Club Secretary George P. Stein. Any scholarships paid out would be paid from interest only and the principal would never be touched. Initially only two scholarships were awarded in the amount of $1000 each, one to a graduating senior at West High School and the other to a graduating senior at Tracy High School. In 2009, we began including Stein High School named in honor or George and Evelyn Stein. In 2010, we added Millennium High School. In 2012, we added Kimball High School.
The legacy that George hopes to leave behind is that he will have enabled a group of young people who have vocational talents the ability to pursue their dreams, "to give them a little boost." Vocational professions are not often considered "upper tier" but they are of no less importance to our community.
The criteria for the George P. Stein Vocational Scholarship is set by George himself. Each applicant must complete an application, a short one page essay, "How this scholarship will help you achieve your goals," have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, must be going into a vocational field such as auto mechanic, culinary arts, firefighter, nurse, etc. All applications must be submitted prior to the deadline of April 19, 2023. No late applications will be accepted.
