FENTANYL AWARENESS

San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas joined the students and staff at Stein to share important important information about the dangers of fentanyl.

One Pill Kills.  Fentanyl overdose deaths outnumber car accidents, homicides, and gun violence, yet fentanyl doesn't get as much media attention.  That makes it all the important to stay informed and aware about the dangers.

POTATO ENZYME LAB

Biology students in Ms Hall's class conducted a lab activity to demonstrate why cells divide as opposed to simply growing larger.

Students calculated surface area to volume ratios and found that smaller potato cubes with a higher surface area to volume ratio were more efficient than larger cubes.

The enzyme catalase in potatoes decomposed the hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas.  In the process, it created a cool foamy top.

As predicted, the smaller chunks with their higher surface area to volume ratio were far more efficient in their enzyme reactions than the single larger piece.
